Your B2B ID

Creator media kit vs B2B ID: what a PDF can't do

A media kit is a document you send after a brand has found you. A B2B ID is a business identity brands can find, verify and act on. Here is what each does, and why you need the second.

Every creator who takes deals has a media kit, and almost none of them have ever received a deal because of it. That is not because media kits are bad. It is because a media kit is the wrong tool for the first half of the job: being found and being requested.

What a media kit does well

A media kit is a sales document. It presents your audience, formats, past work and rates in a designed layout, and it is useful late in a conversation when a brand needs something to circulate internally. Keep making one.

What it cannot do

  • It cannot be discovered. No brand searches for PDFs. A kit only works after the brand has already found you another way.

  • It cannot be acted on. Nobody sends a request through a PDF; the brand still has to find your email and start from zero.

  • It cannot be verified. Screenshots and logos in a deck are claims. A recommendation from a named business on a platform is evidence.

  • It cannot accumulate. Each kit is a snapshot. Partnerships, referrals and recommendations that happened last quarter are not on it unless you rebuild it.

  • It cannot be referred. A colleague can forward a PDF; they cannot refer you through it, and the referral leaves no record.

What a B2B ID is

A B2B ID is your business identity on B2B.ID, the B2B platform where businesses find, hire, sell to, partner with, refer and recommend each other. For a creator it states what you offer (deal types, sponsorship inventory, partnership types, services), who you work with, which categories you take, the markets you reach, and how to start. Partnerships, referrals and recommendations are recorded on it over time.

Brands, agencies, media brands and distributors searching the platform find it. Anyone who reaches it can send a request. And it is one link that belongs in your bio, your show notes, your pitch and, yes, your media kit.

Use both, in the right order

B2B ID first: it is how you are found, requested and recommended. Media kit second: it is the document you send once a brand wants to go deeper. The B2B ID gets you the conversation; the kit helps you close it.

Takeaways
  • A media kit is a sales document for late in the conversation; keep it.

  • It cannot be discovered, acted on, verified, accumulated or referred through.

  • A B2B ID does all five, and links to the media kit for the rest.
